Born in 1985, trumpet and cornet player.
Cancelli has made of free improvisation his personal researching path, by exploring the natural limits of the instrument. He began playing the trumpet as a child, starting from classical music; but decided almost immediately to pursue a research of the music of the origins, from tribal tunes to folk music from Eastern Europe, passing through the Middle and Far East, down to the “Western” sounds of the Afro-American tradition, always following that fine thread linking them all together. In 2007 he met the American cellist Tristan Honsinger with whom he would found the Honsinger Trio in 2008, together with Paolo Pascolo at flute.
In that same here he joined the improvised music collective Dob Orchestra; he took part in the stage show Abbastanza, assenza e presenza (Enough, Absence and Presence) written and directed by Tristan Honsinger, and was first approached by the Balkan Folk Music Band Radio Zastava. In 2009 he followed Tristan Honsinger again, this time in a project based on the fusion of drama, music, dance and painting, celebrating pure improvisation where he got the chance to work with the Japanese dancer Hisako Horikawa and the English singer Phil Minton, among others. In 2010 he begins a process of fusion between electronic and free music with VRANA SUZA. He joined the improvisation ensemble Phophonix Orchestra and in 2012 the Orchestra of the Red Devils directed by Claudio Cojaniz and the Orkester Brez Meja / Without Borders directed by Zlatko Kaučič. In 2013 he won with RADIO ZASTAVA the 2nd place at the international competition for brass bands during the 53th edition of the “Sabor Trubača” of Guča in Serbia. In 2014, with Giorgio Pacorig, begins to form small ensembles, such as ASH DUST and QUEER CICLE TRIO by undertaking a creative work, with original compositions, arrangements or reinterpretations of old pieces now forgotten, may give “life” to a sound too forced nowadays in philology and mannerisms, thus returning an actual and original sound; He’s the author and performer, along with Leo Virgili and Marko Lasič, of the “futuristic” music for the contemporary dance show “RUEDIS, wheels of the border,” a production of the company AREAREA choreographed by Marta Bevilacqua; takes part in the new formation of the singer Stefano Schiraldi; and becomes part of the quintet KAčA SRAKA IN LEVwith Giovanni Maier, Paolo Pascolo, Mimo Cogliandro and Marko Lasič.
Cancelli has performed at festivals, clubs and various events in Italy, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Russia, Scotland, England and Basque Country.
